With an interest in cancer genomics and early detection, I joined the Prof. Rebecca Fitzgerald’s lab at MRC Cancer Unit at the University of Cambridge in July 2016 as a visiting research student, before starting my PhD in October 2017.

Dr. Maria Secrier is my second supervisor. I collaborate with the Secrier lab at the UCL Genetics Institute in London for the bioinformatic analysis studies. My research is focused on investigating the different mutational processes operating in the development of oesophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) by studying associated mutational signatures in these patient samples, so as to gain insights about the aetiology and clinical management of EAC.

I obtained my master’s and bachelor’s in Biochemistry from Kuvempu and Tumkur Universities in Karnataka state, India. I then joined the Cancer Genetics lab at Tata Memorial Centre’s Advanced Centre for Treatment Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Mumbai, working on inherited breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, before coming to Cambridge.

My PhD at the University of Cambridge is supported by Cambridge Commonwealth European and International Trust, Trinity College’s Henry Barlow and Sidney Sussex College’s Howard scholarships.
